Ladies Cup Final

Dear BUFC,

On behalf of the Ladies team I'd just like to thank you again for your support last Sunday at our Cup Final in Tremelo.
It really was quite unbelievable the support we got from the sidelines, and it definitely gave us an extra boost to keep fighting until the end.
It made the day even more special for us to have so many people there, and I know for many of the ladies it will be one of their best BUFC experiences.

Special thanks to Momo for organizing the mega bus, and for all the guys who helped push it out of the ground! Thanks also to Harris who has given us real encouragement over the last few months, and to Tam who has inspired us at training.

BUFC is a very special club and it's amazing what can happen when everyone comes together.

Again, many thanks.

Hils

A day for the wrinklies: The 1st Vets win 1-0 against Cosmos Molenbeek to keep their outside changes of promotion alive and the 2nd Vets record a 3-2 victory against old rivals Avia with Stuart grabbing his 2nd hat-trick of the season. The other two non-losers were the Ladies who drew 1-1 away against Coronation Street fans, FC Vera and the 3rds who had a bye.

That's the end of the good news: Both the 1sts (2-3 against Choule Audeghem) and 2nds (1-2 vs. Cosmos Molenbeek) lost narrowly. The 4ths played, and lost to, Brussels British .... and we'll leave it at that.

Our match-up against FC Irlande resulted in a 2-1 series win for us: The 1st Vets produced an excellent performance in winning 2-0 and the Ladies ground out a 2-1 victory. Unfortunately, the 4ths spoiled the party by losing 1-3, missing a penalty when only 1 down.

Our other match-up against Union JP didn't go so well as we lost both matches. The 2nds went down 0-4 and the 3rds lost 1-3.

In the two remaining games, the 1sts had a comfortable 3-0 against Centre despite having a man sent off. This division (2A) is very tight with 4 points separating the bottom 8 teams so each win is vital: The 2nd Vets somehow managed to convert 70% possession and territory - plus three 1 on 1 chances - into a 0-1 reverse against Le Tigre.

Overall, we showed a profit this weekend with 3 wins, 2 defeats and a draw. The 2nds delivered the goods winning 4-2 against Postboys despite having a man sent off. The 1st Vets beat Drogenbos 3-1 with Rommel making a welcome return to the fold after his recent serious illness. The 3rds improved performances of late finally result in a win, as they beat  Athletico '33 1-0. Last week's cup heroines drew 1-1 against the team that they beat in the semi, Ladies Aarscholt. Elsewhere, the 1sts - who were missing a few regulars - lost 2-3 to New Arquois whilst the 2nd Vets went down 1-3 to Forestois, despite taking an early lead. The 4ths had a bye.

"Wem-ber-lee! Wem-ber-lee! .... we're going to Wem-ber-lee" .. Well, probably more accurately: "We're going to a small Flemish hamlet in the middle of nowhere" but the point is BUFC have reached a Cup Final!! The Ladies drew 1-1 against Ladies Aarschot and won their semi final 2-1 on aggregate. Congrats to the girls.

The final will be held on Sunday 29th April. Make a note in your diaries so we make sure there are a large number of BUFC supporters present to cheer on the Ladies more details about venue, etc nearer the time.

A difficult weekend for the Men's teams: As usual, half term holidays meant that we were short of players so well done to Tam and the captains for making sure we avoided ABSSA's wrath and managed to field six teams. In the circumstances, it was perhaps no surprise that the results were not what we would have wanted. The 2nds were the star turn with a 1-0 win at New Inn. The 2nd Vets gained a good point (1-1) at 2nd placed Faubourg Brainoise. Elsewhere, not such good news: The 3rds lost 0-1 against New Inn and 1st Vets lost 2-1 to Jeunnese St.; the 4ths went down 2-3 to Duden Sport whilst the 1sts eight match unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt with a 0-4 reverse against a clearly (very) Well Team

We should have most players back this week so let's make sure that we get back to winning ways.

Leonard Oddie

Some sad news to report. One of our old players, Leonard Oddie passed away on 14th January. Len was one of our original members and played a leading part in the formation of the club. It's fair to say that without his, and a few like-minded individuals, efforts the club might not exist today. Len was also Chairman of BUFC from 1977 to 1979. Our condolences, and best wishes, go out to his son Danny and to the rest of the family at this difficult time
