As an update to the message below, there will be a memorial service held on Tuesday 31st March at 10:00, in the Sint-Servatius Church, Bergstraat, 1910 Kampenhout (Berg). The funeral service will take place at a later date in the UK.

It is with a genuine heavy heart that I have to write the following sentences. Sadly our much loved friend and team-mate (also a real club legend) Mark Thomas aka Tommo lost his battle against cancer. Tommo passed away on the evening of Thursday 26th March in Leuven hospital surround by his family and friends. Although we all knew he had cancer I think it is still fair to say that we are all shocked and distraught at the speed that Tommo succumbed to his condition.

Tommo will be greatly missed and appreciated in equal measure by the world at large but that does not diminish the impact of his passing on British United. Tommo was everything to this club, as well as Chairman and serving on the Committee he managed through the years to play for every team, to captain every team, and also score goals and red cards in equal measure for every team every season, and he also made sure that every opposition team and officials we faced knew they had been in match on every single occasion. Above all Tommo would often go out of his way to encourage everyone in the club to enjoy their football regardless of how the actual match would go. That is what is meant by legend.

RIP Tommo - you will be missed in so many ways

Tam Kemp

Chairman, British United Football Club
