Two wins on the bounce and 'The Special One' was clearing looking for a third consecutive win. The Gobi Desert circulated by Marek turned out to be a lush oasis of synthetic green, and with WAGs given the opportunity to spend time (and most worryingly money) at the Woluwe Shopping Centre BUFC settled down to business. With Mike back, the touchline returned to full strength, sadly the same could not be said for the team on the pitch in a make shift 4-4-2 formation:
| Dave |
| James |
Edmund |
Dean |
Bram |
| Antonio |
Marek |
Scott |
Tom |
| Alex |
Gonzo |
The Ref looked a little young but immaculately turned out in his kit (thanks to his Mum for that).
They looked a big team and route one aerial football was expected, without Lee how would BUFC fair? We started brightly with Alex and Gonzo running at the aging opposition defence. However, it was the opposition who had the first real chance, a speculative ball down the right caught the make shift defence on the back foot and the Saint Georges' striker was through on goal. Dave was up to the task though and managed to turn the ball away for a corner.
The game was turning into a midfield battle until a mix-up between the Saint George defender and goalkeeper. A misplaced back pass was picked up by Gonzo who guided the ball into the net:
Saint Georges 0 : 1 BUFC
The lead however, didn't last long. Everyone again was caught napping after we had scored. The initial attack appeared to be repelled but an unlucky bounce put the ball into the path of the Saint George striker who put the ball into the back of the net:
Saint Georges 1 : 1 BUFC
Scott rallied the team again and it didn't take long for BUFC to take the lead again. Once more there was a mix up in the Saint Georges' defence and the ball bypassed the keeper and fell to Scott. I'd like to say that his shot broke the net but it only just appeared to have the legs to cross the goal-line.
Half-time: Saint Georges 1 : 2 BUFC
After the half-time pep talk from Scott, Saint Georges and BUFC re-entered the fray. The Ref however was obviously having a nap and his afternoon milk and biscuit. When he finally arrived BUFC controlled the game and threatened to score on the break. With the Saint Georges' defence tiring Alex had two golden opportunities to score and make the game safe. The first he forced the keeper into a save, and the second, after rounding the keeper he managed to put wide, when from the worst position on the field, it looked easier to score!
It was probably a scrappy game overall but we stuck to the game plan and did the business for the 'gaffer'.
Man of the Match: Edmund (Antonio & Gonzo 3rd, James & Marek 2nd)
