Match Report: 27/10/2007
British United 1 - WEEK SPORT (0-0)

By Lee Dawson

No goals but a valuable point for United as they held their nearest competition to a nil-nil draw. Congratulations for Dave turner with the 4th shut out of the season and maintaining our unbeaten record at home.

United promotion hopes were dented as FC Ireland and Nahda battled their way to tight 1:0 victory. However the chasing pack all shared the spoils in the other title challenging matches.

So to the match... After some early crowd trouble from Zahr and Nevin the club security minder and club supremo Dave Lees escorted them behind the barrier's before Rommel got close enough to banjo the ref!

The United team well-organised and frustrated their opponents throughout an entertaining encounter and survived a brief early onslaught. We had much of the possession as the game went on although there was some feisty challenges but on the day our side were lacking the killer touch in front of goal.

Karl "Tyson" Telfor was dancing left and right ready for the killer blow after Tom had been left on the ropes after having been taken out with an early knock out.

The opposition side coped with everything that came their way not least with the help of the stand in referee. Please can I head the ball? asked a couple of players before being penalised by the ref for frightening the oppositions...

Dawson and Duncan returned to an otherwise unchanged team and were keen to make up for lost time working back into a solid team performance.

United looked dangerous on the break with Duncan, making his return after injury and keen to make an immediate impression although often shutdown with several players around him blocking some goal bound attempts.

United skipper Allen not noted for scoring was unlucky to see his second half drive fly high and wide. Tom's darting run into the box with only the keeper to beat looked like the opening that would provide the points and the difference between the two teams before sliding it through to the unmarked Allen in an offside position with the goal beckoning. Marek also came close late on amongst a goalmouth scramble, which Scott narrowly knocked wide.

Blackmore's pace was causing problems and he raced clear and support the foraging runs into the last 3rd once or twice picking up a hanky to cover the nosebleed with being so far forward. The man with the glass body was playing through the psychological pain barrier with another injury. Before the kick off it looked like he wouldn't last the full match and played the sympathy card on Man of the match votes. Although it wasn't enough to get spot the ball!

Duncan nearly showed his quality 5 minutes before the end when drove in a shot from Gonzo's pin-point cross.

James, Tom, Scott, & Marek were pulling the strings in midfield as United dominated, but the opposition continued to keep them out with some frantic defending.

"We want to win this division and we worked very, very hard for that cause," Allan said.

"When you've got the backing of the fan (big Al) the way that we've had today it makes you work that bit harder.

"To only get a point is what we've got to accept but a point's better than nothing at this stage of the season."

And Allen was pleased with Dean's performance too in spite of injury mmmmh...

"Fantastic. He put in a terrific performance. He could have capped it with a goal. But that was never going to happen was it!
