BUFC 3rds

Match Report: 05/01/2008
BUFC 3rds - CENTRAL PARK FC (1-2)

Ok the team,

Paul Harris
Thomas Taylor Tony Costella Alastair Frobisher Luis Gonzalez
Roger Murray Vito Gomes Oliver Hubert Ray McGrath
James Addinall Jeremy Coldrey
Subs: Chris Lindsay

All in all, it was a really open game.

In the first 40 minutes we played really well.

We passed the ball well, had control for most of the half in the Midfield. Out of nowhere they snatched the lead. A pile driver from the halfway line misread slightly by Paul in goals leading to a tap in for the ensuing attacker. It seemed like it was going to be another of those matches where we played well but just couldn't get in front. Ray and Rog were terrifying the opposition full-backs with every time they moved down the wing. If only those boys could put in a cross. The half finished with a flurry as the British tried to even the scores. Unfortunately the whistle blew just as we had a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area. Go figure, their referee their rules.

Second half:

We brought on Chris Lindsay for the workhorse Coldrey at half time. Thus freeing Alastair up to perform his usually tricks upfront. Unfortunately before he got the opportunity to stamp his authority on the game the opposition struck. A long hopeful hoof from the opposition back-line was latched onto by the quick forward before the (magnificent on the day) defenders Luke and Tom had a chance to catch him. Two-nill down with 25 minutes left on the clock and it appeared all was lost. However as has been the case all season the lads heads never went down and we continued to pressure the opposition. Are reward came when Olivier played a delightful chip over the defence for Alastair to latch onto and lob the keeper with a deft touch from 25 yards. More was yet to come though. A free-kick (the only free kick given in the game to us) was given 20 yards from goal. It looked like the perfect opportunity for a right footed curl into the top corner. Unfortunately the spritely figure of Olivier popped up to take the free-kick to the dismay of some. Olivier placed the ball down took one step back, 3 steps to the left then in his best Jonny Wilkinson impression continued to blast the ball so far wide and so far over the bar that no-one will ever see the little fella ever take a free-kick ongoal for BUFC again.
