Match Report: 01/12/2006
Sporting Budingen - BUFC Ladies (0-1)

By Amy Williams

The annual Friday night trip to Budingen was once again upon the mighty BUFC ladies and last week, they headed off into the heart of Vlaams Brabant armed with a new route and GPS. An hour and 8 brothels later, we were at Budingen in record time, admiring the mole hills, their spectacular changing room facilities (complete with dead mouse), and a 'Play Boy' bar which Hugh Heffner would have been envious of.

Despite being bottom of the league and wearing hot pants for shorts, these were no play bunnies. The first half started explosively as, with the support of the whole of Budingen behind them (all 30 of them), these local 'lovelies' were keen to please the crowd. Therefore after an initial 10 minute period of strong attacking by BUFC, including some beautiful flicks and a lob off the woodwork, not to mention an offside decision actually called by a referee in our favour, Budingen ended up in the BUFC half on a number of occasions.

However, some cool composed, clearances from Rachel, some blisteringly fast running and tackling from BUFC's own Carvalho, Jackie and some fab interceptions and attacking from Tish meant that the Budingen babes were left frustrated. Their carefully planned tactics of hoof the ball and run, in addition to a few Euros slipped to the referree and an invite to the Kladder party the next night, was not getting the ball in the back of the net. Therefore, with the fair play award for last season a meer memory on the bar wall, BUFC's skill was counteracted by some pretty unsporting Budingen behaviour, particularly from the local favourite and resident nutcase, Sonja and her partner in crime, number 19.

Despite being battered and bruised, the far superior BUFC warriors were determined to match these Budingen brutes with skill and pace. Right from the second half whistle, with Ramster coming back to bolster up the defence and organise the troops, our Italian stallion Alessandra was dribbling past scores of opposition and on the left our Irish racehorse Amanda was first past the post every time. In addition the midfield worked tirelessly to keep upright and the ball in those ninjas' half. It was only a matter of time, before the Cazminator's golden boot would see the visitors take the lead through a fantastic strike from just inside the 16 yard box to the far left hand corner.

With the chips down, the studs were up and at times the 'pitch' resembled something out of a Bruce Lee film. Things got close when Budingen hit the woodwork (rather than breast or ankle) but our fearless keeper Franci was there every time to deny any chance of an undeserved goal.

With Ana constantly hassling the Budingen goal and Francis and Erika holding off the blows and providing some important links between the defence and midfield, the referee realised his ticket for the Saturday night bash was in jeopardy and tried to assist the Budingen belles with a free shot at goal by throwing what we presumed was a drop ball over Ramster's shoulder in front of our goal. However, a determined BUFC hang on until the end of a pretty extended second half to grab the well deserved three points.

Comedy Moments (despite a seriously crazy and dangerous match):

  • The hilarious changing room banter, including the surprise admission from a married lady "I only come to watch Tish get changed".
  • The BUFC heroines displaying their thanks to Budingen for their kind hospitality when leaving the pitch - only to take the wrong road and have to drive back past the ground again.
  • Amos and Spidey attempting to calm down bop bop bop Sonja and number 19

The return match is 14th April 2007. Let's make sure that we give a warm welcome to Sporting Budingen at Nekker. Supporters needed!
