BUFC Ladies

Match Report: 13/01/2008
KK Bekkevort - BUFC Ladies (1-1)

The British Bitches Move Up the League!

By Lynsey Schonenberger

On Sunday we added to our unbeaten streak by adding a fifth game to the tally - a fair result to be honest, both teams played well although we did have more chances on goal. With a surplus supply of defenders we kept their shots down to a minimum but unfortunately conceded just before half-time. Their strikers kept switching position and eventually the number 10 saw a space and blasted the ball through into the bottom right-hand corner.

Bekkevort were not particularly skilful but had a lot of strength and pace which our defence kept well under control - Gibbo did a fantastic job of yelling encouragement to the team and making some crucial tackles, gaining her the 3rd place Man of the Match award. In the second half we returned to the pitch with our chins up and battled to get a goal back. It came from a touch through from Hils to Tish, who under pressure from everyone shouting "SHOOT!!!," calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net and celebrated with a quick flash from under her shirt which the crowd thoroughly enjoyed!! It had been such a long time since Tish had last scored (since before Captain Caz joined the team!) that she was given a "Virgin Goal" beer afterwards to honour the occasion.

The last 10min of the game provided chances for both teams to clinch the win but our Man of the Match was Pauline who made an outstanding save when faced one-on-one with the striker - a save not even half the Premiership keepers would have had the composure to make. Overall we had a great game and showed grit and determination even when faced with strong and at times violent opposition. I would recommend anger management classes for a couple of the players - Ale and Hels both suffered injuries as a result of pure aggression! So my last game for British United (for a while!) ended 1-1 after a tight but enjoyable match. We are now 8th in the league which is fantastic, good luck for the rest of the season girls and keep pushing up the league - I will be checking up on you when I am away!
